ACCURRA-TCD · Neon

# Online neon gas analyser based on thermal conductivity

ACCURRA-TCD measures neon in a binary mixture by thermal conductivity, with a platinum sensor and no reference gas. Neon is on the ACCURRA-TCD gas list; the range is set for your mixture.

 Quick answer

ACCURRA-TCD measures neon in a binary mixture, such as neon in helium, nitrogen or air, by thermal conductivity with no reference gas. Neon conducts heat about 1.9 times as well as nitrogen; the range is set for your mixture.

## Key features

- Binary neon measurement in helium, nitrogen or air
- Isolated 4-20 mA, programmable alarms and Modbus RTU
- No reference gas, so no reference cylinder to buy or change

## How it works

Neon conducts heat about 1.9 times as well as nitrogen, at roughly 49 mW/m.K, and about a third as well as helium. Neon in nitrogen or air, and neon in helium, both give a thermal conductivity sensor a clear signal.

Neon is recovered from air separation plants as a crude neon and helium stream, then purified. Typical uses include excimer laser gas mixtures, lighting and cryogenics. Neon in helium is the natural binary measurement during purification, and neon purity is checked at filling and before blending.

## Requirements and limits

- Binary mixtures only; a varying third gas shifts the reading.
- The ACCURRA-TCD datasheet lists neon without a standard range table, so we confirm the range for your mixture before quoting.

## Selection guidance

Choose ACCURRA-TCD for neon as the main component of a binary mixture, or for neon in helium during purification. For trace impurities in neon, such as oxygen or moisture, add an ACCURRA-S channel.

## Frequently asked questions

**Can ACCURRA-TCD measure neon?**

Yes. Neon is on the ACCURRA-TCD gas list, measured in a binary mixture by thermal conductivity with no reference gas.

**Can it measure neon in helium?**

Yes, as a binary mixture: helium conducts heat about three times as well as neon, so the signal is strong. Hydrogen in the same stream would interfere; tell us if it can be present.

**What accuracy?**

Repeatability below 1 percent of full scale, linearity below 1 percent of range, and errors and drift below 1 percent of full scale per week.

**Can it measure oxygen or moisture in neon?**

Not with the TCD sensor. Trace oxygen and dew point are read on an ACCURRA-S channel in the same sample.
