How to choose

Duty. Coalescing elements remove liquid aerosols and particles together; particulate elements remove solids from a gas that is already dry.

Grade. Grades are rated by removal efficiency at 0.1 micron: Grade 40 above 99.9999 %, 50 above 99.99 %, 60 above 99.5 %, 70 above 95 % and 80 above 75 % as a pre-filter. Put a coarser grade ahead of a fine one where the load is heavy.

Binder. The standard epoxy binder suits most gases; the silica binder takes temperatures up to 500 °C; the PVDF binder is for corrosive gases.

Size. The part number gives the inside diameter and length in millimetres, then the grade: 25-64-70CS is 25 mm ID, 64 mm long, Grade 70.

Stainless steel and PTFE. Five-layer 316 mesh elements are cleanable and rated from 1 to 200 micron; sintered pure PTFE elements, at 3, 10 or 20 micron, are for samples that may only touch PTFE.

How often should elements be changed?

When the pressure drop rises or the analyser shows a slower response. In Sarvesh sampling systems, i-Cons tracks element life and prompts for replacement.

What does the C or CS suffix mean?

C marks a coalescing element; S marks the silica binder for high temperature. The number before it is the grade.
