Guardian membrane separators: gas through, liquid out

A Guardian housing holds a membrane that lets gas through and stops liquid water and aerosols. Placed ahead of the analyser, it is the last line of defence against a slug of condensate in the sample line.

How to choose

  • Pressure. Most Guardian models are rated to 100 bar and the GMS170 to 150 bar; the P versions are rated to 7 bar.
  • Port size. Most models have 1/4 inch NPT ports; the GMS105 is also offered with 1/8 inch.
  • Membrane. Membrane kits are supplied for each housing, with high-flow membranes where the sample flow is higher.
  • Mounting. Mounting brackets are available for panel and frame mounting.

Frequently asked questions

Where should the membrane separator go?

Close to the analyser inlet, after the sample has been cooled and conditioned, so it catches any liquid the rest of the system lets through.

Is it a replacement for a sample cooler?

No. A cooler removes the bulk of the moisture; the membrane separator protects the analyser if liquid still gets through.

Can the membrane be replaced?

Yes. Membrane kits are supplied for each Guardian model.
