ACCURRA-TCD · Nitrous oxide

Online nitrous oxide (N2O) analyser based on thermal conductivity

ACCURRA-TCD lists nitrous oxide among the gases it measures in binary mixtures, with a platinum sensor and no reference gas.

Quick answer

ACCURRA-TCD lists nitrous oxide among the gases it measures in binary mixtures, by thermal conductivity with no reference gas. N2O in helium or hydrogen works well, but N2O with carbon dioxide or argon is poor, so send the composition first.

Key features

  • Binary N2O measurement
  • Isolated 4-20 mA, programmable alarms, Modbus RTU
  • No reference gas

How it works

Nitrous oxide conducts heat about as poorly as carbon dioxide and argon, much less than hydrogen or helium and somewhat less than nitrogen or oxygen. Nitrous oxide in helium or hydrogen gives a large signal. Nitrous oxide in nitrogen or oxygen gives a smaller but usable one.

Because carbon dioxide and argon are similar, a mixture containing N2O with either of them is difficult for any thermal conductivity analyser. Tell us the full composition. Every application of this analyser needs a binary mixture of known background.

Requirements and limits

  • Binary mixtures only; N2O with CO2 or argon is difficult.

Selection guidance

Choose ACCURRA-TCD for N2O as the variable component of a binary mixture. Please enquire first, because the range, background and required accuracy decide whether the method fits.
