ACCURRA-TCD · Krypton

Online krypton gas analyser based on thermal conductivity

ACCURRA-TCD measures krypton in a binary mixture by thermal conductivity, with a platinum sensor and no reference gas. Krypton is on the ACCURRA-TCD gas list; the range is set for your mixture.

ACCURRA-TCD thermal conductivity gas analyser in a 19-inch rack enclosure, reading hydrogen
Quick answer

ACCURRA-TCD measures krypton in a binary mixture, such as krypton in argon, nitrogen or air, by thermal conductivity with no reference gas. Krypton conducts heat about a third as well as nitrogen, so the signal is strong; the range is set for your mixture.

Key features

  • Binary krypton measurement in argon, nitrogen or air
  • Isolated 4-20 mA, programmable alarms and Modbus RTU
  • No reference gas, so no reference cylinder to buy or change

How it works

Krypton conducts heat poorly: about 9 mW/m.K, roughly a third of nitrogen and about half of argon. That large difference gives a thermal conductivity sensor a strong, clean signal for krypton in nitrogen, air or argon.

Krypton is a rare gas recovered from air separation plants, where it collects with xenon in the liquid oxygen. Typical uses include filling insulated glazing and lamps, krypton-argon blends, laser gas mixtures and propellant for satellite electric thrusters. In each case the krypton content or purity is the figure that is bought and sold, so it is checked at production, at filling and when blends are made.

Requirements and limits

  • Binary mixtures only; a varying third gas shifts the reading.
  • The ACCURRA-TCD datasheet lists krypton without a standard range table, so we confirm the range for your mixture before quoting.

Selection guidance

Choose ACCURRA-TCD for krypton as the main component of a binary mixture, or for krypton in a known balance gas. For trace impurities in krypton, such as oxygen or moisture, add an ACCURRA-S channel.

Frequently asked questions

Can ACCURRA-TCD measure krypton?

Yes. Krypton is on the ACCURRA-TCD gas list, measured in a binary mixture by thermal conductivity with no reference gas.

Which backgrounds suit krypton?

Argon, nitrogen and air all differ strongly from krypton in thermal conductivity. Send the background gas and the range, and we will confirm the configuration.

What accuracy?

Repeatability below 1 percent of full scale, linearity below 1 percent of range, and errors and drift below 1 percent of full scale per week.

Can it measure oxygen or moisture in krypton?

Not with the TCD sensor. Trace oxygen and dew point are read on an ACCURRA-S channel in the same sample.
